Communication skills

One of the major issues of children with ASD face is developing the functional communication skills necessary to manage day to day life. Children with ASD need individualized and systematic instruction to improve their communication skills, which provide opportunities for meaningful social interactions as well as improvements in other skill sets.

The research has shown that the VB approach is effective in teaching communication skills to children with ASD. thereby, the effective training strategies should be disseminate to support practitioners on how to teach children with ASD these verbal operants to develop functional communication skills.

Time and cost-effective training opportunity

Training in VB should be available to all practitioners, teachers, ABA therapists, families and caregivers regardless of whether or not they work in a remote area with limited training resources. Thus, online training models should be considered to reduce the gaps between ABA service accessibility and individuals’ needs. Online training website can overcome a lot of the challenges faced in ensuring VB training for everyone, allowing practitioners to access training from anywhere and to complete this training at their own convenience.

All verbal operants

Every module will last approximately 45-60 minutes long (6-8 hours in total). The creator of the modules will be prompting users to complete the modules. They cannot take any modules without completing the previous one.

Is the online VB training modules effective?

The website and modules have been found effective through 2 different PhD research. The website provides pre-post-tests related to VB approach which are useful for people who keen to pass RBT, BCaBA and BCBA exams.

About The Researcher

Meral Koldas, BCBA, is a PhD candidate at Queen’s University Belfast. She completed her master’s degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis, at Bangor University, North Wales, UK. She has been working with individuals with ASDs for more than 10 years across Turkey, North Wales and Northern Ireland. She developed this website for practitioners, teachers, therapists and others who work with children with ASD as an easy and convenient platform to learn more about Verbal Behaviour and how this can help their clients develop necessary functional communication skills. Her PhD research project online Verbal Behaviour training for practitioners who are working with individuals with ASDs and other developmental disabilities.
